The anticipation of the procession, the sounds of the marching band, the cheerleaders practicing routines one last time; a parade is a setting rich with visual possibilities.
Troy became aware of the possibilities parades offer while traveling with the Sun City Poms. Not only are parades the perfect setting for the Pom’s to strut their stuff, it is also the ideal setting for an entire community of people to stand together in celebration.
Troy’s images transport us to the parade. Participants of all ages and ethnicities come together to dance, cheer, revel with friends and wear fantastically ornate costumes. A spectacle of color and pageantry is on display from beauty queens, veterans, and Shriners, to cheerleaders both young and old. The spirit of the parade is contagious and cathartic. We are able to hear the music and sense the excitement from participants and audience members alike.
Troy’s use of color and his candid approach to parade subjects allow for the viewer to engage fully in the visual and emotional experience.
